IL001 series: sprinkler hose for modular smoke exhaust ducts
DEKTRONIC supplies this FM Approved sprinkler hose system for modular smoke exhaust ducts. The hoses are installed on the exhaust lines of high-tech plant duct systems, saving construction time and making installation quick and easy.
The design cuts conventional piping time, installs in tight spaces and eliminates secondary construction work. It is also designed to absorb the vibration and displacement caused by strong earthquakes.
It saves construction time and installs quickly and easily. It allows relative movement between the main rigid pipe and the duct wall, and during an earthquake it effectively reduces the stress from excessive displacement that could rupture the line and let a fire spread inside the duct.
Besides air conditioning and smoke exhaust, a plant's duct system has a more important job: removing hazardous exhaust gases (sometimes containing particles) from the process area immediately and sending them for central treatment. These ducts are usually long and pass through several fire compartments, so an accident can travel along the duct across fire compartments and become a large-scale disaster. Cases of fires starting in ducts or spreading through them keep occurring at home and abroad, causing huge property losses.
Foreign codes (NFPA318 Standard for the Protection of Cleanrooms, FM7-7 Semiconductor Fabrication Facilities, FM7-78 Industrial Exhaust Systems) therefore make many recommendations for the installation and safety protection of exhaust systems. For example, FM7-78 recommends automatic sprinklers inside 10-inch or larger combustible ducts, or any duct where fire spread is a concern. Fires that start in or spread through ducts keep occurring at home and abroad, and foreign codes recommend automatic sprinklers inside combustible exhaust ducts of 10 inches or larger in high-tech plants. Many plants in Taiwan still do not meet this requirement. This system helps establish duct protection, effectively protecting ducts, preventing fire from spreading inside them and reducing the risk of fire losses.
